Summer camp season is officially underway at St. Francis Center! We kicked off with our nutritious cooking camp, provided by Leah’s Pantry, where our youth learned about healthy eating. We also had writing camp, led by one of our volunteers, Cloe. They wrote a screenplay titled “An Alien Apocalypse, A Space Tale Story.” Last week was Art Camp, hosted by Create Now, where our youth participated in drawing, jewelry making, and singing. We also had a Beach Day last Friday, where we took our campers to Santa Monica!
Every summer, SFC sends children of the extremely low-income families we serve through our pantry service, on site and now also at our satellite pantries, to camp!
This Saturday, we will send our first group of campers to overnight, week-long camp in Big Bear at Camp Whittle, where they’ll play sports, swim, horseback ride, use the climbing wall, and much more!
Our Youth Summer Camp Program leaves a lasting impression on youth by connecting them with nature and engaging them in a variety of activities that open their eyes to new opportunities.
