MARYLYNN GARCIA

RESOURCE SERVICES ASSISTANT

ABOUT MARYLYNN GARCIA

Marylynn is a resource assistant at St. Francis Center with more than 3 years of experience helping unhoused and extremely low-income populations in Los Angeles County. My experience working with low-income communities comes from both interning and volunteering at St. Francis Center. I started volunteering at St. Francis Center in 2011 and then came back to intern in  2017. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and went on to work for WIC as a nutritional assistant. I dedicated myself in this role to help women in need of nutritional guidance for both themselves and their children. St. Francis Center played an important role in shaping my career decision. This center helped me with the pantry program and diaper program when I needed help to get through school. I was a young mother of two going through school and could not afford groceries or diapers. The center was able to provide these basic needs for my family when I became a participant, and because of this,s I was able to continue my education. As a young Hispanic woman, my goal in life is to be able to help people in need obtain opportunities such as resources, food, shelter, and so forth. The same way I was given the opportunity to succeed, I want to help the community and reach young generations by helping them find their paths through providing different services and resources.
